CSC 213 - Introduction to Networking

This area of my website is dedicated to students of my networking class - CSC 214. From here they can view and print handouts from classes that they may have missed or lost the handouts to.

Subnetting

A subnet is a physical segment of a TCP/IP network that uses IP addresses derived from a single Network ID. Large networks are typically divided into several subnets for ease of management and sometimes because of physical limitations. Each segment of the network, or subnet, would use a different Network ID or Subnet ID.

The TCP/IP Protocol Suite

The TCP/IP suite was developed by the Department of Defence (DOD) before the OSI Model, and consequently it does not map directly onto the OSI Model. However, it does map closely to the layers of the OSI Model.
